UK’s Biggest Celebration Of South Asian Culture In Plumstead
Following on from last year’s success, the much anticipated annual Western Union Mela event at Plumstead returns on Sunday, 26th June 2005 at Plumstead Common. People from all communities in Plumstead will be entertained to sensational performances and displays of talent – musicians, dancers, crafts and arts, food markets, children’s activities and novelty football games.
For the third year running, Western Union Financial Services Inc., a worldwide leader in money transfer services, is proud to support the Mela events - UK’s biggest celebration of South Asian culture
Back by popular demand, Mela enthusiasts will have the opportunity to participate in a football themed competition to try and score the most kick ups as possible to win Western Union goodies worth £100. The goodie bags include Jeep sunglasses, a black leather wallet, mini personal radio and a torch key-ring.
Other Western Union attractions at the Mela will include promotions of the company’s new ‘2 Day’ service* to South Asia whereby customers can send money to more than 25,000 agent locations across South Asia for as little as £9.90.
Mela-goers will also be able to apply for Western Union’s newest customer loyalty card** and earn points which can be exchanged for discounts on future transactions or earn phone-time to call anywhere in the world. Customers need to bring two forms of identification (one photo identity such as a current signed passport or UK driving license together with proof of address such as a recent utility bill). For enquiries about the Western Union Card, a dedicated free phone number 0800 804 8104 is available Monday to Friday 8.00am-5.00pm.
John Campbell, Head of Marketing for FEXCO MT, Western Union’s UK representative, commented: “We are delighted to bring the Mela events to the South Asian community again in 2005. We get a great turnout each year and it is heart warming to see the South Asian community get into the spirit of things in the celebration of cultural diversity. The South Asian community has been key to the success of Western Union, and we hope that the introduction of our 2 Day service to South Asia and Western Union card serves to strengthen our ties with our customers.”
The Western Union Mela Tour 2005, which runs from June to September 2005, will continue the next league of the fun-filled merriment in Croydon on 9th and 10th July followed by Glasgow on 17th July, Leeds on 7th August, London on 14th August and Edinburgh on 4th and 5th September.
